Day Space

A day space in downtown Calgary

Central Outreach Hub is a peer-led space at 131 7th Avenue SW where people come in during the day to be warm, eat something, rest, and talk with peers who have been through the same systems.

What we mean by a day space

A lot of services in Calgary open at specific times for specific reasons, with an intake form on the way in. The day space here works differently. The room is open through the week, and you can come in and stay for the time you have. There is usually no appointment, referral, or identification needed.

People come in for different reasons. Some need a warm place to be. Some are between appointments and want somewhere to wait that is not a hallway. Some come for the conversation, and some come because they would rather not be alone for a stretch. All of that is fine.

What you can usually expect

When you walk in, a peer will say hello. You can take any open seat. Coffee is on most of the time, the kitchen serves something on community meal days (Tuesdays and Thursdays), and Good Neighbor provides meals here on Fridays and Saturdays. If you want to talk through something you are working on, someone is there to listen. If you would rather just sit quietly, that works too.

People also drop in here on the way to or from other appointments, and that is part of what the room is for. If you are searching for a place you can walk into without an appointment, this is one of them.
